Design Round One Comprehensives

From Katie Eidson:

Keith,

I have recently completed the design sketches for three of the major signs you have asked us to do, you can find them attached to this email. If you have any trouble with them just let me know and I'll resend them to you.

With that being said, as I was looking at the restoration for the SELZ Shoe sign I realized that we are going to have to recreate a part of the sign. A new area has been bricked in over where the old sign ran. Due to that discovery we will need to add another $450 to the cost of the sign to cover the extra square footage we found.

We are excited to be working with you and hope to hear back from you soon,
Katie

Proposed by Katie

Alternate 01 that includes General Store

Alternate 02 that includes historic color

The following are proposed Welcome to Eatonton Signs

01 too 50's

02 too busy, unnecessarily distracting graphic

03 nicely simple but a 1930's style would be more appropriate. This one seems like 1950 to me.

From Keith Rowell:

Katie

Thanks a million for the sketches.
They are very helpful.

I've added some color variations below for the coke and selz signs.
The board members will make the final decision.

As for the welcome sign, the blue circle is the best of the three.
It has the feel of a 1960's gas station sign. It's very easy to read from a passing car which is my main concern.

I would like to see something that reflects the 1930's to 1940's in style if possible.
I'll add some reference photos of Eatonton from that time frame below for reference.

I hope this helps.
I'll send more photos of the other ghost signs on our list soon.

Thanks again for your excellent work and timely responses.

this is a group email

Hello Katie,
I got some great feedback from yesterday's email.
Thanks a million for the sketches.

Hello Mr Gregory,
Please have a look at the wording for the "Carroll's Grocery" part of the Coca Cola sign. I'm having much trouble making out the exact text. I'm seeing "HR Carroll and sons Gro." (or did you say that in the first meeting?)
We need some clarification on that.
Thanks.

Hello Sammy,
I've made a sketch for the "gold ring flour" sign that makes a lot of guesses all round. Please have a look and let me know what you think. I see some kind of slanting banner around the word "flour" but I can't tell if it's from this or a previous sign.
Keith

Below are the change notes I received from the local experts.

1. The Selz sign has been replaced with Gold Ring Flour. Selz overlapped the "gold ring flour" sign. We favored "selz" simply because it was the only one we could find reference for.
But we've learned that the community's nostalgia is for the gold ring sign. The flour sign is the preferred choice. I'll add as much reference as I can find below.
The above is my best guess from the faded remains on the wall.
The "quality" tagline we have confidence in. The word FLOUR is the most legible. The colors are a total guess except for the border which looks like gold or yellow.

Here is the original.

2. Coke sign header correction. The black border isn't correct. The header I provided yesterday should have been something to do with "Carroll's Grocery" not "fullers general store" (sorry about that).
The actual tagline may be something like "rh carroll & sons grocery" or it might just say "carroll's grocery". (the mind plays tricks) We will have the definite wording and spelling in a day or two.
The black border should actually be dark green like forrest green. Also the yellow border should be a lighter yellow.

I hope this is helpful and clear.
Other signs to come next.

Feel free to call.
