We presented the 9 possible candidates for restoration.
1 gold ring flour --- Blackwell's (this one is overlapped by the shoe sign)
2 blue shoes --- Blackwell's (this one should probably take precedence)
3 Coca cola --- Blackwell's (slight chance of a grant from coca cola - definite local history in the grocer part)
4 Hearn farm supply --- KT Hooper (definite local history )
5 livery # 1 --- KT Hooper (TBD)
6 livery #2 --- KT Hooper (TBD)
7 welcome --- Remus on chiropractor building (Uncle Remus Museum must be contacted in regards)
8 Alice's bldg --- 2nd floor above antiques (was not addressed in the estimate but is a good candidate)
9 gold ring flour --- MAD building by railroad (Board agreed it's a prime candidate)
Summary
Kevin outlined the project and efforts to secure funding for the estimate just received.
Keith filled in details about the specific signs.
The window of opportunity for this group of painters (wall dogs is the old term from the 30's) is short
Roddy Ann recommended several grant sources. (what were those Kevin?)
Both building owners have pledged money towards the project.
The consensus around the table was generally positive and may revisit any outstanding issues in the next month. (before the group needs to start painting)
Richard Garrett pledged lodging for some of the sign painters.
Next steps
1 Prof Norman provides pricing guidelines received
2 we gather details of the historic signs via old photos etc. partial 30%
2.1 Contacts must be made with Uncle Remus Museum about the welcome sign in place of their mural in front of the insurance office.
2.2 ???
3 some preliminary designs are mocked up for presentation
4 we attempt to find financing and grants (using preliminaries) partial 50%
5 P- Norm students present final design proofs for approval
6 with design, scope, and money established we can proceed
7 with luck we get on the schedule before November (weather?)
